My top three favourite books about… persevering

It has been quite a while since I added to my “Top Three Books About…” series, so here goes! Who doesn’t love a character that comes across multiple barriers, gets pushed to the point where they almost want to give up, but keeps going and eventually succeeds! Here are the top three favourites in our house.

1. The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires

This book is about a girl who sets out to make something. She’s not sure exactly what it’s going to look like, but she’ll know it when she gets it just right. Enter huge tantrum! I love this book because it’s so relatable – not only to my kids when they are trying to create something new – but also to me! Sometimes when I’m trying to write, the words just aren’t flowing. I’d like to throw a tantrum too. The Most Magnificent Thing

2. Possum Magic by Mem Fox

This book is an Australian classic. Poor Hush has to travel around Australia to find the food that can make her visible again. Not only do I love this book for showing a character persevering, but I also love how much persevering it took the author to get it published. (you can read about that journey here: https://memfox.com/gossip-behind-mems-books/possum-magic-illustrated-by-julie-vivas/
It gives us aspiring authors hope! Possum Magic

3. Little Miss Chatterbox by Roger Hargreaves

We call my youngest child Little Miss Chatterbox because she is constantly talking. So naturally, she loves this book. The story follows Little Miss Chatterbox, who has to persevere in her quest to find a job. Unfortunately she is fired multiple times because she spends all day talking instead of doing the job. The organisational psychologist in me sees this as a great example of how important it is to match the right person to the right job! Little Miss Chatterbox
