Introducing my top three favourite books about…

So right now I’m busily submitting my stories to publishers and agents.  I have lots of exciting blog post ideas to accompany each of these stories, but while I keep working away at these, I thought I’d start a series looking at my top three favourite books along different themes. There are so many great kids books out there at the moment, and I’d love to share my favourite ones.

So here’s my first top three…

My Top Three Dialogue Driven Books

What do I mean by this? I’m talking about books that just have the characters talking. So, there’s no “he said” or “she said”. Just the dialogue. Here’s three of my favourites that I’m reading with my girls at the moment:

1. We Found A Hat by Jon Klassen

I didn’t understand what was so great about this book at first. It wasn’t until my eldest daughter was able to read all by herself. One day she read the book to me, and I sat back and looked at the pictures while she read. And all of a sudden, I got it! The pictures work together with the words and create an extra element. And it’s hilarious! We have another book in this series and we love reading it together (she reads one character, I read the other).

2. My Friend Is Sad by Mo Willems

Elephant and Piggie are so cute. This is another book where my eldest daughter and I take turns reading each of the characters “lines”. I think this is what I love most about the “dialogue driven” books.

3. The Cat Wants Custard by P. Crumble

Imagine if you could hear your cat’s thoughts. Imagine the grumpiness, the sense of entitlement, the demands. Yep, this book sounds like it was written about my cat. It’s another one we like to “act out” by reading the lines like a play.

This is just a selection of the three “dialogue driven” books that get read the most in my household. But I’m always on the look out for more like these. Feel free to add any of your favourites in the comments below!
